Erik Rubens migrated from The Netherlands in 1983 and has followed the international music scene since he was nine years old. Having travelled to Australia many times over the past six decades, he finally made the big decision to settle here in Melbourne in 1984 and has never looked back since.
Erik is married to Janene with two daughters Helena and Sarah and lives in North Warrandyte. With a strong background in international trade, promotional marketing and wine exports, he is a very active person, with additional active and passive involvement in motorsport. He was part of the original officials team that were responsible for the organisation of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1985 and maintained a very close involvement for 27 years after that and still does as a Senior Steward at National and International level.
He is also very active in Business Networking, as well as an organising committee member in the Manningham Business Awards program and being a business awards Judge and Mentor in several other municipalities around Melbourne. Erik has been mentoring small business for more than 10 years in addition to ownership of his travel agency The Travel Store in James Street, Templestowe and loves the experience of helping others with his extensive hands on knowledge.
Erik was invited to join the Rotary Club of Templestowe three and a half years ago and been a Board member for the past two and since then offers his time and expertise to initiate fundraising events for community organisations.
Erik has taken over one of Greg and Alma's Friday night "Nice and Easy” programs each month, so big shoes to fill. Erik will also be doing a few "Rotary in Action" afternoon sessions and remains on hand for an evening drive program or as an emergency.
