We say a big farewell and thank you to John Milne, who presented his final "Memory Lane" and "Radio Playhouse" programs on 96.5 Inner FM on Sunday 4th September 2016. John was with us on air for 26 years since the early days of our test broadcasts. John has retired for health reasons and will be greatly missed by his many friends and listeners.
John would have to be classed as one of the "old men" of community radio. He began his community radio career at the ABC-run 3ZZ back in the years of the Whitlam government. Following the closure of 3ZZ by the Fraser government John moved 3CR where he met John Ferguson who introduced John to the world of nostalgia. The pair went on to host the popular "Nostalgia Unlimited" for 13 years.
It was at the end of this partnership that John saw an article in his local paper about a community radio station being formed in his local area. This was the beginning of John's involvement at Inner FM. During the early days of Inner FM John hosted a nostalgia program almost every night of the week. It was during these early days that he formed a friendship and partnership with Brett Bysouth with their long running "Memory Lane" program which was presented on Sundays at 7pm. There was also a mid-week edition of the program for many years.
John's love of things nostalgic doesn't end at the music. John was also heard at 9pm on Sunday hosting "Radio Playhouse" where he played old radio dramas from years ago. John also presented "Anything Goes" on Fridays at 2.30pm.
