Lucille Hughes works as a freelance graphic designer, illustrator, editor, proofreader, and writer. Her specialty has been training in technology that was just about to become obsolete. Ah, typesetting ... She has a degree in Fine Arts (Sculpture) from RMIT University.
She was born in Manchester, England but has spent most of her life in Australia. Her family settled in Geelong and she grew up thinking that everyone sang all the time. With her sisters, she sang in bands around Melbourne and also the early music group Viriditas, which performed the works of Hildegard of Bingen. She has two sons who still tell her to shut up when she sings.
Lucille volunteers at WIRE (Women's Information and Referral Exchange) with a team of phone workers who take calls from women all over Victoria, listening to their stories and trying to connect them with the services they need. WIRE has become a very important part of her life.
Lucille loves 96.5 Inner FM and thinks it is a great radio station, not only because it represents diverse local community interests but because it has an atmosphere of friendliness and support for its volunteers. She presents 'Take Two' at 2pm Wednesdays and also 'Readings and Writings' (11am Wednesdays) alternating with Marie Ryan.
