Musical Theatre Melodies - 12th Aug - "Oh, What a Lovely War!"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 12th August at 9 p.m. will mark the centenary of the commencement of World War I with Oh, What a Lovely War!, (featuring songs and parodies of the 1914 - 18 period to comment on life on the British home-front and European battlefields during the Great War), from the 1963 original cast recording featuring members of Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop Group Production including Avis Bunnage, Fanny Carby, Judy Cornwell, Myvanwy Jenn, Mary Preston, Barry Bethell, Larry Dann, Griffith Davies, John Gower, Tony Holland, Godfrey James, Colin Kemball, Murray Melvin, Brian Murphy, George Sewell, Victor Spinetti and Bob Stevenson.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the musical, ('live' via telephone from London), by British Musical Theatre historian, archivist and author - Rex Bunnett.

And will be followed by highlights from the 1969 film soundtrack recording featuring Jean-Pierre Cassel, Maggie Smith, Corin Redgrave, Joe Melia, et al.
