Musical Theatre Melodies - 19th May - "The Sound of Music"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 19th May at 9 p.m. will feature a 50th Anniversary tribute to the Academy Award-winning film version of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, (suggested by "Maria Trapp's Story"), from the original 1965 motion picture soundtrack recording starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer (singing dubbed by Bill Lee), with Charmian Carr, Nicholas Hammond, Heather Menzies, Duane Chase, Angela Cartwright, Debbie Turner and Kym Karath as the von Trapp Children; together with Daniel Truhitte, Portia Nelson, Marni Nixon, Anna Lee, Ada Beth Lee, Doreen Tryden and Peggy Wood, (singing dubbed by Margery McKay.)

This will be preceded by a 'live' telephone introduction to the musical from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist* Peter Filichia, who will discuss the original 1959 Broadway production starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel.

The remainder of the broadcast will include archival interviews with the film's director, Robert Wise and composer, Richard Rodgers; plus song selections from the original 1959 Broadway cast recording of the musical.
