Musical Theatre Melodies - 21st April - "Carousel"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 21st April at 9 a.m. will feature a 70th Anniversary tribute to Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Carousel, (based on the play Liliom by Ferenc Molnar), from the 1956 motion picture soundtrack recording starring Shirley Jones, Gordon MacRae, Barbara Ruick, Robert Rounseville, Cameron Mitchell and Claramae Turner; plus additional songs from the score from the 1965 Music Theatre of Lincoln Centre revival cast recording starring John Raitt, Susan Watson and Reid Shelton, and the 1987 studio cast recording with David Rendall.

This will be preceded by a 'live' telephone introduction to the musical from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist - Peter Filichia.

The remainder of the broadcast will feature a selection of songs and instrumental numbers from the 1945 motion picture soundtrack recording of Rodgers and Hammerstein's State Fair, (based on the novel by Phil Stong), featuring the vocals of Louanne Hogan (dubbing for Jeanne Crain), Dick Haymes, Vivian Blaine, Dana Andrews, William Marshall, Charles Winninger and Fay Bainter.
