Musical Theatre Melodies - 23rd Sept - "The Boy Friend"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 23rd September at 9 p.m. will feature a 60th Anniversary tribute to Sandy Wilson's The Boy Friend, from the original 1954 Broadway cast recording starring Julie Andrews (in her Broadway debut role), John Hewer, Eric Berry, Ruth Altman, Bob Scheerer, Geoffrey Hibbert, Ann Wakefield, Paulette Girard, Dilys Lay, Stella Claire and Millicent Martin; plus additional numbers from the 1970 Broadway revival and original 1953 London cast recordings.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the musical, ('live' via telephone from London), by British Musical Theatre historian, archivist and author - Rex Bunnett.

And will be followed by an interview with the founder and executive producer of The Collective, Geordie Worland, who will talk about the company's inaugural Australian professional premiere production of Jason Robert Brown's Tony Award winning musical Parade, currently being staged at 45 Downstairs, (at 45 Flinders Lane in Melbourne), until 28 September; (see and for further details.)

The remainder of the broadcast will feature songs from 1920s musical comedies that inspired Sandy Wilson's affectionate tributes, such as Rodgers & Hart's The Girl Friend and Lido Lady and Vincent Youman's No, No, Nanette.
