Musical Theatre Melodies - 24th March - "A Little Night Music"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 24th March at 9 p.m. will pay tribute to Stephen Sondheim's recent 85th birthday with a presentation of A Little Night Music, (suggested by Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night), from the original 1973 Broadway cast recording starring Glynis Johns, Hermione Gingold, Len Cariou, Victoria Mallory and Laurence Guittard with Mark Lambert, Patricia Elliott, Judy Kahan, D. Jamin-Bartlett, et al.

This will be preceded by a 'live' telephone introduction to the musical from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist - Peter Filichia, who will share his reminiscences of seeing the original production during its pre-Broadway season in Boston.

And will be followed by an interview with Karen Jemison, the producer of Manilla Street Productions' Victorian premiere season of the revue Sondheim on Sondheim, being staged at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday, 23rd May '15 at 2 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.  (See www.melbournerecitalcentre.com.au for further details.)

The remainder of the broadcast will feature a selection of songs from A Stephen Sondheim Evening, recorded 'live' in concert in New York City on 3rd March, 1983 featuring performances by Liz Callaway, Cris Groenendaal, Bob Gunton, George Hearn, Steven Jacob, Judy Kaye, Victoria Mallory and Angela Lansbury, with Stephen Sondheim at the piano.
