MUSICAL THEATRE MELODIES - 24th May - "Mame"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 24th May at 9 p.m. will feature a 50th Anniversary tribute to Jerry Herman's Mame, (based on the novel by Patrick Dennis and the play Auntie Mame by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee), from the 1966 original Broadway cast recording starring Angela Lansbury, Beatrice Arthur, Jane Connell, Charles Brasswell, Jerry Lanning, Sab Shimono and Frankie Michaels; plus Robert Preston's recording of "Loving You" written for the 1974 film version.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the musical (via Skype) from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist - Peter Filichia.

The programme will conclude with excerpts from the cabaret show "An Evening with Jerry Herman", with the composer/lyricist playing and singing songs from his musicals, accompanied by Lee Roy Reams and Karen Morrow, from the 1989 "live" recording made at Rainbow & Stars in New York.
