MUSICAL THEATRE MELODIES - 27th June - "The Merry Widow"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 27th June at 9 p.m. will feature a 110th Anniversary tribute to the London premiere of Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow, (with English lyrics by Adrian Ross), from the 1952 U.S. Columbia studio cast recording starring Dorothy Kirsten and Robert Rounseville, with Genevieve Warner, Wesley Dalton, Clifford Harvuot and Betty Bartley.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the operetta (via Skype) from London-based musical theatre historian, archivist and author - Rex Bunnett.

The remainder of the broadcast will feature recordings by the original London 'Widow', Lily Elsie, (from Robert Stolz's The Blue Train) and 'Danilo', Joseph Coyne, (from Irving Berlin's Follow The Crowd), plus a selection of Franz Lehár's 1947 orchestral recordings with the Zürich Tonhalle Orchestra.
