Musical Theatre Melodies - 2nd February - "Sweet Charity"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 2nd February at 9 p.m. will feature a 50th Anniversary tribute to Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields' Sweet Charity, (based on the Federico Fellini film The Nights of Cabiria), from the 1966 original Broadway cast recording starring Gwen Verdon with John McMartin, Thelma Oliver, James Luisi, Arnold Soboloff, John Wheeler and Helen Gallagher.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the musical (via Skype) from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist - Peter Filichia.

The remainder of the broadcast will include alternate and additional songs from the 1969 film soundtrack recording of Sweet Charity starring Shirley MacLaine, John McMartin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Stubby Kaye; plus the "cut" song "You Wanna Bet" performed by Cy Coleman and archival radio interviews with the cast members and writer, Neil Simon following the show's opening night on 29th January, 1966.
