MUSICAL THEATRE MELODIES - 30th August - "Chu Chin Chow" - Centenary tribute

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 30th August at 9 p.m. will pay a Centenary tribute to Oscar Asche and Frederic Norton's Chu Chin Chow, ("A Musical Tale of the East" based on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves), from the 1959 London studio cast recording featuring Inia Te Wiata, Julie Bryan and Barbara Leigh, with additional songs from the 1961 WRC studio cast recording with Marion Grimaldi, Edward Darling, Ursula Connors and Ian Humphris and the 1934 film version with Malcolm McEachern.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the musical (via Skype) from London-based musical theatre historian, archivist and author - Rex Bunnett.

The broadcast will also include feature recordings by the original 1916 London cast members of Chu Chin Chow - Courtice Pounds, Violet Essex and Frank Cochrane.
