Musical Theatre Melodies - 5th May - "Damn Yankees"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 5th May at 9 p.m. will feature a 60th Anniversary tribute to Richard Adler and Jerry Ross's baseball musical Damn Yankees, (based on the novel "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant" by Douglass Wallop), from the original 1955 Broadway cast recording starring Gwen Verdon, Stephen Douglass and Ray Walston, with Sannon Bolin, Robert Shafer, Rae Allen, Russ Brown and Eddie Phillips; plus the Richard Adler song "There's Something About an Empty Chair" sung by Shannon Bolin from the 1958 film soundtrack recording.

This will be preceded by a 'live' telephone introduction to the musical from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist Peter Filichia.

The remainder of the broadcast will feature a selection of songs from the original 1955 London cast recording of Adler and Ross's The Pajama Game, (based on the novel "7-1/2  Cents" by Richard Bissell), starring Australian Joy Nichols, Edmund Hockridge and Max Wall; plus two revue songs written by Adler and Ross for John Murray Anderson's Almanac in 1953.
