Musical Theatre Melodies - 9th February - "The Mad Show"

Rob Morrison's next "Musical Theatre Melodies" broadcast on Tuesday, 9th February at 9 p.m. will feature a 50th Anniversary tribute to Mary Rodgers' The Mad Show, (a musical revue based on the satirical Mad magazine, with sketches by Larry Siegel and Stan Hart, and lyrics by Siegel, Marshall Barer, Steven Vinaver and Stephen Sondheim), from the 1966 original Off-Broadway cast recording starring Linda Lavin, Jo Anne Worley, Paul Sand, Richard Libertini and MacIntyre Dixon.

This will be preceded by an introduction to the musical revue (via Skype) from New York-based theatre critic and Internet columnist - Peter Filichia.

The remainder of the broadcast will include the musical short Three To Make Music, with text and lyrics by Mary Rodgers and music by (her sister) Linda R. Melnick, from the 1958 original U.S. cast recording starring Mary Martin and Dirk Sanders; plus selections from the 1960 London cast recording of Mary Rodgers and Marshall Barer's Once Upon A Mattress, with a cast that included Australian performers Bill Kerr and Bill Newman.
