Rob Morrison’s next Musical Theatre Melodies broadcast on Tuesday, 28th March will feature an 80th anniversary tribute to the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musical Oklahoma! (based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs) from the 1943 original Broadway cast recording starring Alfred Drake, Joan Roberts, Howard da Silva, Celeste Holm, Lee Dixon, Betty Garde, Ralph Riggs and Joseph Buloff.

This will be preceded by an interview with the former Head of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization – Ted Chapin.

The programme will conclude with a selection of songs from the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein performed by Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Al Jolson, Dick Haymes, Hildegarde, Sylvia Sims, Evelyn Knight, Buddy Greco, Carmen McRae, Jeri Southern and Rosemary Clooney, including songs “cut” from Oklahoma! and South Pacific and incidental numbers written for the 1946 play Happy Birthday and the 1953 film Main Street to Broadway.
